Zara has been subject to social media criticism because of their small sizes. I can remember my mom and her friends making jokes about the “Large” shirts in Zara, only fitting people who would usually be a “Small” in other brands. Recently, they came up with a campaign named “Love your curves” which is already a lazy and unoriginal slogan. Being the fashion giant Zara is, they could have easily worked with an agency that could have come up with a better way of promoting confidence in a woman. But what is even worse about this campaign are the models used in the ad. They are two skinny supermodels who don’t reflect the idea of “loving your curves.” I am all for brands supporting a curvier body type, but the models just don’t reflect a different or curvier body type. I took the picture above from Twitter where many users made memes or compared the image to what the models in the ad should look like. As you can see the ones on the left are skinny with no curves, and the ones on the right have the body type we would expect to see from the slogan of the campaign.
To me, this is simply lazy advertising. Zara wasn’t successful in creating an original slogan, much less shooting a picture that matched what they were trying to portray. I don’t know if this was because their in-house advertising team wasn’t on top of it or they were too lazy to care
